The Mai Tai is a classic Tiki cocktail, with many variants, but typically comprised of over proof rum, lime juice, and Orgeat syrup giving it a deliciously nutty almond taste to compliment sharp acid and high alcohol content.

 

For our no fuss version we've substituted the over proof rum with spiced rum for some extra notes and kept the rest as traditional as we can.  

We then lengthen it with pineapple juice to welcome the impression of fresh fruit and island sun into the mix.

 

We love the taste of a Mai Tai and it's seeming magically ability to transport you to a tropical island, and what better time is there to bring a taste of the tropics to your home!

FUSS FREE COCKTAILS

INGREDIENTS

  • Captain Morgan's Spiced Rum 39% - 50ml

  • Orgeat Syrup - 50ml

  • Triple Sec 25ml 

  • Britvic Pineapple Juice - 100ml

  • Juice of 1/4 lime

  • Lime wedge and cherry to garnish

METHOD

Recommended Glassware: Tumbler or Slim Jim 

 

Dilute the Orgeat syrup with 170ml of water and shake or stir vigorously. Add 50ml Spiced gold rum, 25ml triple sec, and 50ml of the mixed Orgeat syrup into a cocktail shaker.

Top up with 50ml of the pineapple juice and a handful of ice, shake vigorously and strain into a tall glass full of ice, garnish with a cherry and lime wedge. 

 

FACTS  

Orgeat, pronounced OHR-ZHAT, is an almond flavoured syrup often infused with the rose or orange blossom water and famously used in many tiki drinks to give them a signature nutty/floral sweetness!
