SUSSEX

DARK & STORMY

FUSS FREE COCKTAILS

ABOUT

The Dark & Stormy is claimed to have originated from Bermuda, shortly after WW1 when it was apparently first created in a ginger beer factory run by Royal Naval officers when sailors insisted on adding rum to the non-alcoholic beverage.

Traditionally a dark rum is used and floated on top of the ginger ale to resemble storm clouds, after pouring the drink it can either be stirred to mix the ingredients, or enjoyed separately by drinking through a straw which can slide up the glass for a hit of strong rum or down for refreshing ginger ale and lime.

This drink is made entirely with ingredients from Sussex but can be enjoyed anywhere in the country, without fear of flouting any travel restrictions.

SUSSEX DARK & STORMY

FUSS FREE COCKTAILS

INGREDIENTS

  • Cloven Hoof - 37.5% - 50ml

  • Folkingtons ginger beer - 125ml

  • Juice of 1/2 lime

  • Lime wedge to garnish

METHOD

Recommended Glassware: Tumbler

Start by generously filling a glass with ice cubes, and garnishing the ice with a wheel of lime. Squeeze the juice of 1/2 a lime into the glass, and take a can of the Folkingtons Sussex ginger beer out of the fridge and pour the 125ml(half of the can) into the glass.

With one hand hold a teaspoon above the glass so that it is just above the liquid, and with the other hand delicately slow pour 50ml of the Sussex Spiced Rum on the spoon, so that it floats on top of the liquid in the glass-like dark storm clouds. Mix if you wish.
